FIREFLY • Credit Card Knife, Saw and Firestarter
We are back at it again with another new and exciting product line! That’s right, our new Firefly gear is out now for all to see…
Let’s check out some of the specs together:
-
Strong Construction:
Each of these tools are the real-deal! They are made from 1095 High-Carbon Steel, which happens to be my favorite steel for outdoor use. Why do I love 1095 so much? I’m glad you asked! 1095 Carbon Steel is easy to maintain in the field, it takes a razor-sharp edge, and it’s the perfect balance between strength & durability. -
Pocketable or “tin-able” (I'm making up words today):
These credit-card sized tools easily fit in standard Altoids-size tins or wallets. -
Glow in the dark band:
Each tool has a glow-in-the-dark band with a firestarter underneath it. A slim ferrocerium rod, to be exact. The glow-in-the-dark band is perfect for retaining the ferro rod. But, it also adds a great bit of illumination when the lights go out. -
Proudly USA Made:
These USA Made tools are far from a gimmick and are meant to be something that you can actually rely on when you need it. The saw chews up wood like a hungry beaver, the ferro rod and striker will light things up like it’s the 4th of July, and the chisel-ground blade is ready to tackle any cutting tasks that come in front of it.
Firefly Blade
As I mentioned earlier, the 1095 High Carbon Steel is very easy to maintain (which is one of my favorite characteristics of 1095 Carbon Steel). But, we didn’t stop there when it comes to ease-of-use. The chisel-grind on this knife makes it even easier to maintain with only a simple sharpening stone in the field.
A chisel grind has 1 bevel, or simply put, 1 angle along it’s sharpened edge. it is very easy to find the single-angle and sharpen it until you feel a bur on the backside of this tool.
Firefly Saw
The Firefly Saw digs into wood very well! Whether you’re carving notches or stop cuts for carving projects, this saw makes short work of them. You can also saw through appropriately-sized sticks with this saw.
Some pocket saws are very difficult to use because they rely on fine motor skills. However, this one, is very easy to use. The full-size grip makes the Firefly Saw work very well in a lot of adverse conditions.
Firefly Heat
I saved my personal favorite for the end. The Firefly Heat is compact, but very capable. The nesting ferro rod and sharp striker punch well-above their weight class. From the very first time I took the Firefly Heat out, I had absolutely no issues igniting a variety of natural materials with the shower of sparks that it creates.
The 1095 striker has an incredibly sharp 90º “spine”, which contributes to how well it throws sparks. Also, given that this tool is made of 1095 High-Carbon Steel, you can throw sparks with a piece of flint rock if you lost your ferro rod and needed a backup method of firestarting. The striker gives you a full 4-finger grip (with Medium-sized hands), which makes this a surprisingly great “steel” for your flint & steel set.
