Sensational engineered design but unfortunately perhaps recieved a bad blade

Every thing about the Cordage Maker Micro Tool is sensational. It's minute size affords it to be able to be with you at all times, it's green for the environment (recycles plastic bottles) and provides the means for essential & emergency cordage all in this minute package. The clever cutting design reminds me of the manual pencil sharpener we had for school - a tried proven reliable design.
I have tried it on 4 different plastic bottles and have been unable to get more than a several inches of cordage. I have re-watched the assembly and demonstration videos ensuring I have assembled it correctly and that the micro tool is at 90 degrees to the bottle to ensure optimum cutting. I have also tried to get it to cut (shread) a bit of paper and thin cardboard unsuccessfully. I can only come to the conclusion I may have received a "bad blade"(dull). It's such a shame because it's such a brilliantly designed tool that takes up no space and can be with you at all times.

Hey Chris! Sorry your having a problem getting things started on your cordage maker. If you will contact us at customerservice@grimworkshop.com they will gladly send you a replacement blade if you think yours is dull, but it does sound like your blade might be turned wrong. The blade actually fits upside down from the way most people like to attach it, the tiny bevel on the blade should actually be facing the ground, not up. Typically when the blade is facing up and the bevel is visible you get 2-6' of cordage before it slips off. This is because the bevel actually directs the bottle in a specific direction, when the bevel is down (flat side of the blade facing up) it directs the bottle downwards so it doesn't slip off and lets it keep cutting. If you scroll to the bottom of this page, there are several videos, one of which is about assembling the cordage maker where we show how to place the blade the correct way. We also have a second one on using the cordage maker to help you get the hang of it. If these don't help please contact us for a replacement blade and if that doesn't help we'll happily help you troubleshoot it, or issue you a return or exchange. I'm really sorry your having a tough time with this one but it's a common issue and the blade position is usually the cause. Feel free to email us at the above address to help further!

    Incredibly small and incredibly useful

The micro cordage tool comes as a kit to assemble. The instructions are good, easy to follow. Not only is it fun to use, but having something like this in a terrible situation could actually help save your life. It's extremely light, well worth the price, and very easy to use. It'd be great if you have kids and you want to teach them about recycling, or if you're seeking alternative uses for old bottles you have lying around. A small 350ml bottle will give you more than 15 feet of usable plastic cord!
