Hot Shot Fire Card: Survival Knife with Fire Starter Card
A Fire Card Built for Real-World Use, Not Just One Task
The Hot Shot Fire Card is a wallet-sized fire card designed for everyday carry, combining a fire starter, cutting tools, and multiple survival functions into a single compact tool that fits in your wallet or an Altoids tin kit.
Instead of relying on one method to start a fire, this card gives you multiple ways to generate sparks, prepare tinder, process material, and solve problems in real situations. It works as both a fire starter and a compact survival card, giving you layered capability without adding bulk to your kit.

Why the Hot Shot Fire Card Exists
Starting a fire is one of the most important survival skills, but it’s also one of the easiest things to get wrong when conditions are not ideal.
Most people rely on:
- lighters
- matches
- a single ferro rod
And when that one option fails, they are left without a backup.
The Hot Shot Fire Card exists to solve that problem by building redundancy directly into a compact format you can actually carry every day.
This card was designed for situations like:
- wet environments where matches fail
- cold conditions where fuel sources struggle
- travel or urban scenarios where you are not carrying a full kit
- backup fire systems when your primary tool is lost or empty
Built for Real Use in Fire and Survival Situations
Built for Real Use in Fire and Survival Situations
This card is designed to function as a working tool, not something that sits unused.
The structure allows you to:
- apply pressure when cutting
- generate consistent sparks
- use multiple edges and surfaces
The integrated tools are designed to work together, not independently, which means you can move from preparing tinder to creating sparks without switching gear.
Because it is flat and compact, it fits naturally into:
- wallets
- Altoids tin kits
- small survival kits
This makes it far more likely to actually be with you when needed.

Hot Shot Fire Card Tool List, Skill Guides, and Training
Every tool on this card is backed by a full skill guide.
That means you are not left guessing how to cut, strike sparks, or build a fire when it counts. You can learn exactly how each piece works, when to use it, and how to apply it in real-world conditions.
Each tool listed below links directly to its own step-by-step guide. These guides take you from beginner to confident use, so you are not just carrying tools, you are building real fire-starting and cutting skills.
This is part of how Grim Workshop works.
Not just tools. Tools plus the knowledge to use them.
How to Use a Fire Card in Real Situations
A fire card is not just about creating a spark. It’s about controlling the entire process of building a fire from start to finish.
1. Preparing Tinder
Use the built-in blade to:
- shave dry wood
- create feather sticks
- process small materials into ignitable tinder
This step matters more than the spark itself.
2. Generating Sparks
The ferrocerium rod produces hot sparks when struck with steel tools on the card.
Multiple components on the card can act as strikers, giving you flexibility depending on how you’re using it.
3. Ignition
Direct sparks into your prepared tinder bundle.
With properly prepared material, ignition happens quickly.
4. Building the Fire
Use the saw to process small wood and the blade to refine material.
This allows you to transition from spark → flame → sustained fire.
Where This Matters Most
- emergency situations
- wet or unpredictable environments
- minimalist kits
- backup systems when your primary fails
This is not a one-step tool.
It supports the entire fire-building process.
What Can You Actually Do With a Fire Card
A fire card is designed to do more than just start a fire.
You can use it to:
- create sparks using a ferro rod
- shave wood into fine tinder
- cut cordage or small materials
- process small branches with the saw
- store and manage cordage using the spool section
- remove splinters or handle small items with tweezers
- apply leverage with the pry tool
This makes it useful in both survival situations and everyday carry setups.

Why a Fire Card Makes Sense for Everyday Carry
Most fire tools are designed for packs or larger kits.
That creates a gap.
You either:
- carry full gear
- or carry nothing
A fire card fills that gap by giving you a carryable, always-with-you fire option.
It works especially well for:
- everyday carry setups
- urban preparedness
- travel kits
- compact survival systems
You’re not replacing your main tools.
You’re making sure you’re never without one.
How This Fire Card Fits Into a Real Kit
This card functions as both a backup fire system and a compact multi-tool.
Best Kit Types
- wallet survival kits
- Altoids tin kits

VerifiedI bought two, one to keep, another to experiment with. The blade came semi-sharp. Cleaned up the edge on my Work Sharp belt sharpener. The blade also has nice 90 degree spines all around to use as a scraper. The striker has a very nice burr and really scrapes wood, the magnesium bar, and the ferro bar well. I saw a review criticizing the magnesium bar, saying it won't ignite. The ferro bar is very efficient and it took a lot of strikes to get the magnesium to ignite, but it did ignite and burned hot like it should. The magnesium bar doesn't adhere to the backing after first removal. All the other tools adhered to the backing after removal multiple times. The pry bar tip is sharp, you can use it as a mini chisel. The tweezers are precise and sturdy. The saw cuts well, either for actually cutting wood, or notching. Suggestions: Apply a better knife edge at the factory (that would probably raise the cost). Users should be cautious after removing the magnesium bar the first time, it will want to fall out with gravity. Otherwise it's basically perfect.

VerifiedFor a fire starter it works great .Knife would not eneven cut paper.

VerifiedBeen looking forward to experimenting with this for some time. Still experimenting with properly sharpening the knife. Everything else works great.

VerifiedGreat toolset for survival/firestarting. For its compact size it is surprisingly sturdy and well crafted. Know this will come in handy and that I can count on it when I need it most. Nicely Done!

Verifiedvery poor quality control, burred edges, barely blue, and flimsy foam and paper backing
Customer
Tools hard to remove, weak foam and paper backing, knife edge is jagged, barely blue. Not <1mm thick as description claims (reason I got it), it's at least 1, and the magnesium juts out. Regular credit card for comparison. If you're looking for a regular use, compact multitool, this isn't it.

VerifiedWell, At first the items were difficult to get off of the card and the back side of the items had very ruff edges, after I finally removed all of the items and put them back they wouldn't stay stuck to the card. I rinsed the card off with water and it seemed to help some what.

VerifiedJust got this and I’m very impressed. This tool gives a good price of mind knowing I have a way to make fire if all else fails or when I don’t have my fire kit with me. The con is that it is a small kit and may require some practice to become proficient in reliable use. But other than that this thing is awesome!! I’d like to buy another one asap.

VerifiedGreat to have when needed and takes up very little space. Be Prepared.

VerifiedI was so looking forward to receiving my Card Gen2: Survival Knife with Fire Starter (I'm in Australia so it took awhile) as it seemed such designed engineered and effective card kit. However shock & disappointment was received. The Survival Knife was both rolled and chipped along its cutting edge, there was also some rust along the blade edge and other spots on the knife prybar and saw.
Richard Read
VerifiedThe Hot Shot Fire Card wins in the Engineering and design categories hands down. I have tried dozens of fire starters and none of them can beat the Hot Shot on completeness, versatility, and utility. With compactness you usually sacrifice utility. The Hot Shot card ADDS utility. I’ll be putting these in all my kits
