What is a ferrocerium rod
Ferrocerium rods are a favorite fire starter among many outdoor and survival enthusiasts, and a critical component in a bushcraft fire kit, or any fire kit for that matter. Ferrocerium is a man-made metallic material that produces sparks in excess of 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit when it's scraped with a rough surface or a sharp edge.
how to use a magnesium fire starter
Magnesium burns white hot at an incredible 4000 degrees F. The secret to making a magnesium fire is in shaving off thin pieces from your soft magnesium bar into a dime sized pile. You can easily do this with the blade of your knife or your ferro rod striker. Apply a spark from your ferro rod, and your pile of magnesium shavings catches fire. You now have a great means of starting a campfire even if the natural tinder or wood in your campsite is damp.

Reusable Design
The Hot Shot Tools were created to be used, abused, and reused, unlike cheaply made disposable tools. Our incredibly unique Tool Retention System is included with any Grim Workshop tool with removable parts and makes all of our tools reusable. This allows you to take out any part of the tool, use it, and put it back when you’re finished.
There are no one-and-done experiences with Grim Workshop gear. Instead, we want you to take our tools out, test them, practice with them and get familiar with them learn how to start a fire with wet wood, and more using this incredibly unique bushcraft fire kit. That way, if the day ever comes when you want or need to use them, you’ll know how.
Grim's tool retention system gives the grip you would expect from adhesive or rare earth magnets without the sticky residue or de-magnetized credit cards they could create.

What to put into a fire starter kit? What to remove? whats the best fire kit? Packing a fire kit for your bug out bag, survival kit, or even just a simple EDC (everyday carry) can sometimes be a daunting task, but with the Hot Shot Tools, that's not an issue.
Our bushcraft fire kits are cut from 2mm thin heat treated 1095 high carbon spring steel. This fire starter kit only occupies one slot of your wallet so that you can have it with you at all times without compromises. You don't have to remember to carry it, because it's always there. And there's never any bulk!
