How To Make a Spear in the Forest

HOW TO MAKE A SPEAR IN THE FOREST WITH THE SURVIVAL SPEARHEAD CARD

Gather your Spear Shaft – Generally, for safety a good rule of thumb is to use a spear shaft about ¾” to 1” in diameter minimum. Generally, for safety if you keep a spear slightly longer than you are tall it helps avoid stabbing yourself in a fall by accident and are great to double as walking sticks. Short spears are perfectly useful as well, generally short spears are used for throwing.

Clean the limb – trim any branches and bark from the outside of your spear shaft making it as smooth as possible and free of debris.

Attach the point of the spear– attach your spear point to one end of your spear, you can taper the end to make the spear penetrate easier and not hang up so easily.

Attach the secondary point of the spear (if desired) – Wrap your spear points securing them onto your spear shaft, wrap heavily where the spear and the wood meet, to increase the strength of your spear head and help the wood not break or chip and your diy spear is ready to go.  

Tip: You can fire harden your spear shaft before attaching the spear head to increase its durability and strength.
