As always, one of my favorite things about our Signature Cards here at Grim are the people behind them. I have, personally, had the pleasure of sharing dirt time with several of the people behind our cards. And, one of the people that I’ve spent the most time in the dirt with is Jamie Burleigh. Allow me to start this article out with a story about how Jamie and I met…

Story Time...
It was nearing the end of 2018 and I was ready to dive head first into my photography/outdoor business at Awaken Outdoors. As a result, I was spending a lot of my time going to events within our industry. While I was at a gun & knife show in Indianapolis, Indiana, I ended up meeting a beardy fellow named Jamie Burleigh. It was as if I had known this guy forever, even though we had just met for the first time in person.
Fast-forward a month or two – I made a trip back up to Indiana to camp with him and a few other guys. Mind you, I did not actually know any of these guys from Adam, including my newfound friend Jamie Burleigh. But hey, it seemed like a good idea, and they didn’t kill me in my sleep.
That trip ended up being a pivotal one in my outdoor journey. Jamie shared some hard truth with me as we sat by the campfire enjoying all sorts of fire smoked meats, cheeses and bread. The hard truth was delivered with kind encouragement, as he pushed me towards getting some legitimate survival training to go along with the photography/creative work that I was doing in the outdoor industry.
I took my new friend Jamie’s advice to heart because I knew he was a talented outdoorsman and he spoke from a place of truly wanting to see me succeed. That trip helped to send me on a trajectory that I don't know that I would've followed without Jamie.
...That's just the kinda guy that Jamie is.
With all of that said, if I could sum up my good friend Burleigh in a few words – (whom I’ve actually spent countless hours with at this point, lol) – I would say, Jamie is one of the most kind and humble guys you will ever meet. He is one of the best people to share a campfire with, an excellent educator, and a very talented outdoorsman. And that makes it my honor to show you the Jamie Burleigh Signature Card here today.

So, aside from my personal connection to Jamie, let me formally introduce you to him and what he's all about.
- Jamie teaches survival and outdoor skills in person and online. I've been a part of several one-on-one teachings with him, as well as many group classes and I always walk away with a stronger skillset than I walked in with.
- He is a craftsman who specializes in crafting wooden bows (as seen in one of the images above).
- Jamie also handcrafts and sells his own steel strikers, awls, blanket pins, salves, and all sorts of other survival gear. Some of his handmade gear is shown with his Signature Card above.
You will quickly notice that Jamie's businesses name “Old World Alliance” fits his approach to outdoor gear very well. And this is reflected in his trapping card as well.

My 3 favorite features….
I will be the first to tell you that I do not even have a novice skillset when it comes to trapping. I, honestly, need to spend some dirt time with Jamie learning how to trap and how to use this card to the fullest. But, here are the main features that stand out to me on Jamie's card...
- Fish Hooks:
Catching critters on land is not my forté. But, ripping some lips on some fish...I can do that! And having extra fishing hooks around is always a win for me. - L7/Harpoon:
I love that the L7 triggers double as a harpoon. This allows you to assemble them as a trap on land. Or, you can fashion them onto the end of a long stick for gigging fish or other reptiles by the waters edge. - Line Wrap:
Several of our Grim Survival Cards have this feature and I think it's incredible. On the left and right side of this card, there are small cutouts where you can wrap fishing line or light gauge snare wire around the card. And it holds incredibly well.
Again, just being honest, I am not good at trapping. So, I know there are a ton of other great features in this survival card that I just don't know how to use. Maybe we should make a challenge out of this article...You and me, we have to learn a new trap each week, until we figure them out, using the various triggers/trapping components from Jamie's card?
